MIT campus sees another ridiculous smear attempt
A US-based Israeli military officer has embarrassed himself on camera in the latest of a series of feeble – and filmed – attempts to smear protesters.
The man walked into the middle of a student encampment at MIT in the US and started calling for help – before later telling far-right station Fox News that he was ‘truly afraid’:

Whatever his emotional state, he is presumably not very bright if he didn’t realise how he would look when the video inevitably came out. Still, at least he didn’t claim to have been ‘stabbed in the eye’ by a flag before going, uninjured, onto news programmes to bewail the ‘violence’ of peace protesters trying to stop a genocide.
Meanwhile, the student protest movement continues to grow – and to score numerous successes.

Libel case winner calls for suspension of sanctioned judge from community chair role

The President of Leeds Jewish Representative Council, Judge Laurence Saffer, is facing calls to suspend and investigate its hard-line Zionist Chair, Simon Myerson KC for crude and abusive social media posts.
The call for Myerson’s suspension comes from James Wilson, who published his letter to the President of Leeds Jewish Representative Council on Twitter/X on this week. In April 2023 Myerson re-posted a tweet by Twitter/X user Tom Doran which accused Wilson of being ‘the scum of the earth’ and in some way responsible for the death of Pete Newbon, a director of anti-left pressure group ‘Labour against Antisemitism’ (LAAS).

James Wilson’s post containing his letter to Saffer
Wilson was the claimant in Wilson v Mendelsohn, Newbon and Cantor. He was recently awarded £30,000 in damages by a judge for defamation and misuse of private information. Newbon died by suicide in January 2022.
Doran’s tweet and Myerson’s re-tweet led to the High Court judge awarding Wilson increased damages. The judge said Doran’s tweet was crude abuse of the same dehumanising kind used against Jewish people by the Nazis in the 1930s. Despite the judge’s findings, it appears Myerson has not apologised to Wilson.
Myerson is also the part-time judge who was recently reprimanded by the Lord Chancellor and Lady Chief Justice for engaging in political in political controversy and posting offensive tweets. It is not known whether Mr Myerson KC continues to hold judicial office in light of his very public intervention in relation to a Green Party councillor. Skwawkbox has contacted the Judicial Press Office for comment.
Myerson recently called for the Green Party to suspend one of its elected councillors over his social media posts on the issue of Gaza. Myerson was also interviewed by LBC radio demanding the councillor’s immediate suspension. The hypocrisy of calling for another person to be suspended for their social media posts despite a judicial finding that he has engaged in crude abuse seems not to have been raised.
It is not known what, if any, action Leeds Jewish Representative Council will take about Myerson. The Council represents over 8,000 Jewish people who live in Leeds.

Anti-genocide campaigners staged protests outside Barclays bank branches in London last weekend against the bank’s investments in apartheid Israel and Israeli weapons manufacture, for example the 2.7 million shares that the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) says it holds in military drone manufacturer Elbit Systems.
And while headlines were made last month by stunts by pro-genocide right-wingers who claim that supporters of Palestine are a threat to Jews – despite the clear fact that Jewish demonstrators are prominent at all the protests – a video captured by one protester shows the utter nonsense of the provocative claim.
As protesters condemned Barclays’ ‘investments in Israel’s crimes against humanity’, a lone pro-Israel woman wandered back and forth through the crowd carrying a placard calling for ‘no ceasefire’ and declaring that ‘Hamas=ISIS’ – and did so in complete safety, entirely ignored by the protesters, possibly to her disappointment:

The demo then moved on to UCL, in a show of support for students who are holding an encampment in solidarity with Palestinians and against their university’s financial and academic links with the apartheid regime.
The speeches and chants condemning Israel’s genocide and supporting the right of Palestinians to live in peace and freedom were passionate, as they should be when Israel has murdered more than forty thousand civilians, mostly women and children, and maimed tens of thousands more – but the idea that those campaigning against slaughter are dangerous to Jews, even those who support Israel’s genocidal regime, is again exposed as smears, misdirection and fantasy.

Israel rejects Egypt/Qatar-brokered ceasefire deal, begins Rafah invasion
Netanyahu’s political survival and potentially freedom from prison depends on continuing slaughter
Israel has rejected a ceasefire deal, brokered by Egypt and Qatar and accepted by Hamas, that earlier saw jubilation among Palestinians currently kettled in Gaza. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, whose political future depends on continuing the war and who faces the resumption of criminal proceedings for alleged corruption as soon as he is out of office, is unsurprisingly putting his own interests ahead of the lives of Palestinian civilians and Israeli troops and prisoners of war.
Israel’s invasion of Rafah, where most Palestinians in Gaza have been driven by Israel’s mass murder of civilians, is said to be underway, despite token comments from the US government that it would ‘not support’ such a military operation.

Student graduates at the University of Michigan have walked out of their graduation ceremony, holding Palestinian flags an challenging Israel ‘How many kids have you killed today?’, in protest at Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
The protest is part of a growing trend of students protesting at their graduation that has been added to the student encampment movement, holding placards and calling out the horrors being perpetrated on Palestinian civilians despite increasingly brutal state repression of students, including many Jewish students who are playing a prominent role in the demonstrations, for exercising their freedom of speech.

Huge victory for Goldsmiths students for Gaza as uni accepts divestment demand and more
Six months of demos and five weeks of sit-ins see university climb down in face of students’ determination
Students at London’s Goldsmiths university have won a huge victory after months of solidarity with Palestinians, forcing their university to accept their demand to divest from involvement with the Israeli occupation and to set up scholarships for Palestinian students.
Organiser Fatima Zaid explained in a Twitter/X thread what the students have achieved, including the end of an investment contract with a firm closely connected to Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu – and a review of the university’s use of the unfit (and non-definitional) so-called ‘IHRA definition’ of antisemitism, that has been widely used to suppress criticism of Israel:

Goldsmiths will release a collaborative statement between management, @Gold4Palestine and the student union.

Labour’s vote-share projection falls on today’s local results – and is lower than Corbyns/Miliband’s
Electoral expert says Labour overall has gone backward, despite Starmeroid spin
Keir Starmer and his spokespeople are spinning like crazy that today’s local election results are a sign of how well the public is receiving Starmer’s policy blancmange of nothingness (well, maybe they’re not using quite that terminology), while they point to a few areas where Labour had good results – such as in the Blackpool South by-election.
But Labour also did disastrously in other areas, such as on Teesside, where it failed to oust Tory Ben Houchen despite Houchen facing allegations of deeply dodgy land deals, in North Tyneside, where it lost control of the council, and in the West Midlands, where it expects to lose to the Tories.
And according to expert electoral analysts, Labour has gone backwards compared to last year, like the Tories:
Compared to polling claiming Labour’s Westminster vote share is as high as 47%, a 34% performance is disastrous – and is considerably lower that the shares achieved by Starmer’s predecessors Jeremy Corbyn and Ed Miliband. Corbyn managed higher in 2018 and Miliband in 2012-13:
Independents, meanwhile, performed strongly, beating the LibDems in vote share and seat gains. The Greens also performed well.
With outrage continuing to grow over Starmer’s lockstep with the Tories in backing Israel’s genocidal regime, a nine percent lead does not look guaranteed to hand Starmer a parliamentary majority – and today’s results confirm it.

Los Angeles police have stormed the pro-Gaza protest camp set up by peaceful student protesters at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
Riot-clad police are violently arresting students and faculty taking part in the protest against the university’s complicity in Israel’s genocide – which has killed well over 40,000 civilians, mostly women and children – and is smashing up tents and makeshift buildings, despite free speech and association rights being guaranteed by the US Constitution:

Violence erupts as pro-genocide mob assaults peaceful pro-Gaza students

The propaganda of pro-Israel groups and ‘mainstream’ media was again exposed last night after a pro-Israel mob of around one hundred mounted an assault on University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) students protesting peacefully against Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Thugs attacked students with sticks, poles and chemical spray, pulled down barriers and tents and committed, according to a university administrator, ‘horrific acts of violence’ against young people demonstrating against war crimes. The assault began just before 6am today, UK time.
Police were reportedly slow to disperse the attackers.
Despite the one-sided violence, UK and US press have persisted in headlines that ‘both-sides’ the violence, presenting it as ‘clashes’ or ‘violence between groups’ in a sick echo of the language used by media to hide the reality of Israeli military and settler violence against Palestinians:

Breaking: ICJ rules that Germany can continue Israel arms sales despite genocide
International Court of Justice reject Germany’s attempts to strike out case but refuses by 15 votes to 1 to issue emergency measures banning weapons sales
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has refused Nicaragua’s request for a provisional order banning Germany from exporting weapons to Israel, despite its earlier ruling that Israel is ‘plausibly’ committing genocide in Gaza. Nicaragua had argued that Germany is enabling genocide. The court rejected Germany’s request to strike out the application.
Germany is Israel’s second-largest arms supplier. The court expressed continued concern about the situation in Gaza but has allowed Germany to continue supplying the slaughter, despite Israel’s complete disregard of the court’s existing orders to protect Palestinian lives and Germany’s repression of pro-Gaza protest. The genocide case continues and is expected to take more than a year to conclude.
