Occupiers slaughter 7, wound at least nine and bulldoze homes and buildings as regime responds to news of war crimes warrants – with more war crimes

Israeli forces have brutally attacked the city of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, killing at least seven people and wounding at least nine, two of them critically, before bulldozing homes and buildings. Video in circulation shows Palestinian children fleeing under fire from troops, snipers and tanks, while a local hospital director reported that Israeli troops were firing at people in the hospital’s courtyard.

Among the murdered were three children, as well as senior surgeon Dr Osayd Jabarin and teacher Allam Jaradat, who was shot in his car as he tried to drive to work:

The Red Crescent reported that Israeli forces stopped emergency crews from reaching wounded people. Israel claimed it only killed armed men. Other raids took place in Tubas, Hebron, Nablus and Ramallah.

International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Karim Khan announced on Monday that he had applied for war crimes arrest warrants for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and defence minister Yoav Gallant. The regime has been in panic mode since and has tried to enlist the US to pressure the ICC into denying the warrants – but Netanyahu and co will not stop piling up the evidence of their criminality and contempt for humanity.

Video: Belfast’s huge pro-Palestine mural

Published by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 22/05/2024 - 1:47am in

Irish city stands in solidarity with the people of Gaza

A huge mural showing solidarity with the people of Gaza against occupation and genocide now stands in Belfast. The beautiful artwork, filmed by JT MacLochlainn, consists of a series of panels depicting the suffering and spirit of the Palestinian people, emblazoned with a ribbon containing the poem by Prof Refaat Alareer, the Palestinian poet murdered, along with several family members, by Israel last December:

Alareer’s full, achingly evocative poem reads:

If I must die,

you must live

to tell my story

to sell my things

to buy a piece of cloth

and some strings,

(make it white with a long tail)

so that a child, somewhere in Gaza

while looking heaven in the eye

awaiting his dad who left in a blaze–

and bid no one farewell

not even to his flesh

not even to himself–

sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up above

and thinks for a moment an angel is there

bringing back love

If I must die

let it bring hope

let it be a tale

In October last year, as bombs fell on Gaza, Alareer paid tribute to the fans of Celtic who were raising flags and banners in solidarity. The Scottish football club is supported by many Irish Catholics, who well understand occupation and oppression under centuries of English rule and who have shown resolute solidarity with the Palestinians as another occupied people. Celtic fans paid a moving tribute to him after he was murdered in a targeted Israeli attack and have continued to show support for Palestinians, despite attempts by the football club’s administration to discourage them.

Ireland remains a nation divided, with Belfast officially the capital of Northern Ireland and part of the UK, despite limited devolution.

ICJP director warns UK MPs ‘justice is coming’ over complicity in Israeli war crimes

Published by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 21/05/2024 - 8:29am in

Senior lawyer says ‘ink is almost dry’ on the guilt of many MPs who have enabled and covered Israel’s atrocities

Keir Starmer, Rishi Sunak and other UK MPs may be looking uneasily over their shoulder tonight after receiving a renewed warning from the lawyer leading a pro-Palestinian justice group about their own guilt regarding Israel’s war crimes, after International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Karim Khan announced he has requested arrest warrants for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and defence minister Yoav Gallant.

Tayab Ali, a partner in Bindmans, one of the world’s leading human rights law firms, and a director of the International Centre for Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) published his stark warning on Twitter/X this evening, telling MPs who have supported and enabled Israel’s atrocities against the people of Gaza that it is now too late for them to do much to avoid their guilt and complicity, because ‘the ink of history on your potential complicity is almost dry and you already made your decision’ – and that ICJP will be demanding personal legal accountability for guilty MPs:

Scotland Yard has already called for evidence after the ICJP warned Tory PM Rishi Sunak and notionally-Labour leader Keir Starmer that it would prosecute them if they colluded in war crimes against the Palestinian people. Starmer has even gone as far as to tell a radio interviewer that Israel had a ‘right’ to cut off food, water and fuel from Gaza, with several of his front bench MPs publicly defending his statement until he later tried to pretend he hadn’t said it.

Israel has killed at least 40,000 civilians and potentially as many as 100,000, overwhelmingly women and children, with double that number maimed and wounded and many more set to be murdered as Israel continues its invasion of Rafah and its block on the entry of food, fuel and medicines for more than two million people.

ICC prosecutor asks Court to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant

Published by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 20/05/2024 - 10:24pm in

Israeli PM and ministers in panic mode, denouncing move

Karim Khan, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague, has asked the Court to issue arrest warrants for Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and defence minister Yoav Gallant, telling the ICC that there are reasonable grounds to believe that they bear criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity since at least 7 October last year.

However, in what appears to be yet another instance of the ‘both-sidesing’ that treats oppressor and oppressed as equivalent, Khan has also requested warrants for Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar and military chief Mohammed Deif, repeating against them Israeli allegations of rape that have long been debunked and discredited, including by Khan’s UN colleagues who investigated Israel’s claims.

Israeli government spokespeople are already publicly attacking Khan and appealing again to the US to help kill the warrants. On 30 April, Netanhyahu described the possibility of warrants as an ‘outrage of historical proportions’. Israel is not a signatory to the ICC, but if warrants are issued every country that is would have a legal obligation to arrest him and Gallant if they enter their jurisdiction, and deliver them to The Hague. The UK would, of course, be likely to ignore this obligation as it has its obligations under the Genocide Convention to intervene in Israel’s slaughter of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

Israel has so far murdered at least 40,000 people, mostly women and children, in Gaza and maimed double that number. However, some estimates put the death toll at over 100,000.

Israeli army airdrops photos of children with warning to run to IDF in psych warfare

Published by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 20/05/2024 - 8:17am in

Vile psychological warfare as flailing occupiers try to turn Palestinians against each other

The Israeli military has begun airdropping leaflets with the faces, names and security numbers of Palestinians, including children, claiming they have been exposed as collaborators with Israel and listing a number to call to ‘save yourself’, in a naked attempt to sow suspicion and division among the Palestinians of Gaza, who refuse to allow their spirits to be broken by Israel’s genocide and endless war crimes. At least one child pictured is a toddler of two or at most three years old.

The disgusting tactic exposes the desperation of an occupying, apartheid state whose own commentators and media are voicing opinions that Israel has lost the so-called ‘war on Hamas’ in which Israel has murdered as many as 100,000 innocent Palestinians and wounded around twice as many.

Leaflets showing adults have also been dropped:

United Nations Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories Francesca Albanese, who has announced her finding that Israel is indeed committing genocide, confirmed the foul tactic in a post outlining the way in which Palestinian children are threatened and blackmailed by Israeli forces, a practice dating to long before 7 October, a phenomenon she dubbed ‘unchilding’:

Albanese also spoke to Watermelon Reports and described how thousands of children are kidnapped by Israel and held, sometimes for years, without limit:

More than two thirds of those murdered by Israel since 7 October last year have been women and children, with many tens of thousands more maimed or orphaned in targeted attacks on family homes, including the families of medics, journalists and UN workers. The apartheid, racist state has nothing but contempt for the lives of Palestinian innocents, even the youngest and most vulnerable.

Video: Israeli security minister Ben Gvir gives speech behind podium calling for Gaza colonisation

Published by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 17/05/2024 - 8:51am in

Right-wing extremist isn’t reticent about Israel’s ambitions for land where it’s committing genocide

Right-wing extremist and racial supremacist Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s National Security Minister, is one of the worst of an odious bunch in Israel’s genocidal government – and he isn’t shy about Israel’s real ambitions for Gaza, where its military is engaged in genocide and an endless list of other war crimes.

And this week, he gave a speech, to thousands of far-right settlers, behind a podium declaring, “Colonization in Gaza will bring security. Returning home!” The speech was no better than the slogan – and clear evidence of Israel’s continuing genocidal intent:

The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor has said today that it will take the court until the end of 2025 to complete its investigation into war crimes in Gaza. The case is clear-cut and the decision to issue arrest warrants for the racist extremists running Israel’s government and carrying out the mass murder of Palestinian civilians cannot come soon enough.

‘Large pro-Israel demo’ in NYC has ‘few dozen people’

Published by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 17/05/2024 - 8:00am in

Broadcasters spin lack of support for Israel’s genocide

New York this week saw a ‘large’ pro-Israel demonstration, or at least it did if you take western news headlines at face value. But look beyond the headlines and even the ‘mainstream’ media can’t hide the truth – like CBS in the US, who had to admit that, in reality, only ‘a few dozen’ turned up:

The reality was in stark contrast to the presentation – and in stark contrast to the millions who turn out, every weekend, against Israel’s genocide and to support the people of Palestine against war crimes, oppression and apartheid.

Exclusive: key Unite committee walks out, says will start legal action against union

Published by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 16/05/2024 - 11:27pm in

Elected representatives walk out accusing Sharon Graham of stifling democracy and destroying the union, with Unite’s employed officers on the verge of industrial action against the union

Protesters holding a demo outside a meeting of Unite’s executive committee in March. Insert: general secretary Sharon Graham

In dramatic news that will further hit the management of the Unite union, which has been blighted by complaints of abuse, destruction of evidence and the betrayal of the oppressed people of Gaza despite the union’s democratic position in full support of them, members of a key Unite committee have today walked out and have said they are initiating legal action against the union over general secretary Sharon Graham’s ‘stifling’ of its democracy and what they say is her destruction of the union.

In a statement issued after the walk-out, the members of the ‘Finance and General Purpose Committee‘ of elected executive representatives, explained their action:

Today the members of the Unite Finance and General Purposes Committee (F&GPC), the most important committee of the Unite Executive Council, took the unprecedented step of walking out of the meeting and will be commencing legal action with the Certification Officer.

As members of the F&GPC we have not taken this decision lightly, but we are determined not to let our union’s democracy be subverted by a Chair who has lost the confidence of the committee and a General Secretary who is determined to stifle democratic decision making.

The background to this decision is the refusal of the Chair and General Secretary to allow representatives of Unite’s Officers committee to address the meeting and explain why they are on the verge of balloting for industrial action.

At the previous meeting the members of the F&GPC were told by Unite Executive Head of Operations, Sarah Carpenter, that there was no unrest at all with the officers and no issues to be addressed.

But this flies totally in the face of the letter that all F&GPC members received this week in which the Officers National Committee asked to urgently meet and address the F&GPC, in order to discuss matters with a view to resolving major problems before moving towards industrial action.

Under rule, the ultimate employer of Unite officers and staff is the Unite Executive Council, and as members of the key subcommittee of the Executive Council, we take that responsibility very seriously. The idea that officers of Unite are so angry and frustrated as to want to take industrial action is totally unprecedented and is a situation that warrants immediate attention.

For the Chair and General Secretary to use every possible bureaucratic means to prevent that discussion is an insult to the F&GPC, an insult to the wider Executive Council, and most of all an insult to our members who need their officers motivated and working hard to protect their jobs, pay and conditions.

Our decision comes on the back of months of the F&GPC’s growing concern about poor management of the organisation and deep concern about financial reporting and accountability. We also thoroughly object to the General Secretary using threats against members of the wider EC when raising and challenging her handling of our money.

As members of the Unite F&GPC we will not stand idly by and allow the Chair and General Secretary to destroy our great union. We will be considering commencing legal action with the Certification Officer before any more damage is done and will be calling on the Unite EC and all Unite members and activists to help restore the democratic control and accountability of our union.

Graham’s tenure at Unite has also been marked by a string of other serious allegations, which neither she nor the union has ever denied – of abuse, cover-up and failure to protect women:

In addition, she has been exposed behind the union’s decision to ban showings in Unite’s buildings of a film exposing racism, smears, rigging and abuse by the Labour right and has appeared to grow increasingly cosy with red-Tory Labour ‘leader’ Keir Starmer, despite Starmer’s lies, his contempt for democracy, his u-turns on promises to Unite members and his regime’s repeated blocking of Unite-backed parliamentary candidates.

Unite has been contacted for comment.

Jewish-American Biden appointee resigns over US support for Israel’s genocide

Biden ‘has blood on his hands’ and is making Jews less safe by enabling Israel’s slaughter of Palestinians, says Lily Greenberg Call as she quits the Department of Interior

Lily Greenberg Call

Jewish-American political appointee Lily Greenberg Call – previously a proponent of pro-Israel propaganda now clearly horrified by the reality of the settler-colonial project – has resigned from her position in government over the United States’ collusion in Israel’s genocide in Gaza, telling US president Joe Biden that he has blood on his hands and is endangering Jewish people by helping Israel’s slaughter of Palestinian civilians.

In a withering resignation letter to her boss Deb Haaland, she describes Israel’s mass murder of Palestinians as genocide and accuses the US government of furthering the subjugation of the Palestinian people for the sake of the apartheid occupation:

May 15. 2024
Secretary Deb Haaland
United States Department of the Interior
1849 C St NW
Washington, DC 20240

Dear Secretary Haaland,

I joined the Biden Administration because I believe in fighting for a better America, for a future where Americans can thrive: one with economic prosperity, a healthy planet, and equal rights for all people. I have dedicated my career to candidates who I believed would further this vision. I worked for Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign in 2019, and then moved to Arizona to work for President Biden’s campaign in 2020. I was thrilled to join the Department of Interior because I was inspired by your principled track record of championing progressive causes, in addition to your role as an Indigenous woman leading a Department that historically harmed Indigenous communities, and the potential that it has for reparations, reconciliation, and healing.

However, I can no longer in good conscience continue to represent this administration amidst President Biden’s disastrous, continued support for lsrael’s genocide in Gaza.

I am an American Jew. My family escaped antisemitic persecution in Europe and found refuge in America. They changed their names at Ellis Island and worked as farmers, peddlers. and salespeople. My grandparents could not go to college. Two generations later, I have the honor of working as an appointee for the President of the United States. The weight of this position is not lost on me. This is the story of many people in my community: a story of survival, upward
mobility and fulfillment of the American Dream. And yet I have asked myself many times over the last eight months: what is the point of having power if you will not use it to stop crimes against humanity?

My whole life has been spent in Jewish community in the US and Israel. I have spent time in Israel/Palestine, and I learned Hebrew and Arabic both formally in school and through connection in community. I have family and friends who are Israeli, Palestinian – and have loved ones who have served in the IDF. People in my community lost loved ones during Hamas’s attack on October 7th; beloveds killed, displaced, and taken as hostages. I am terrified by rising antisemitism around the world. And yet I am certain that the answer to this is not to collectively punish millions of innocent Palestinians through displacement, famine and ethnic cleansing.

Israel’s ongoing offensive against Palestinians does not keep Jewish people safe – in Israel nor in the United States. What I have learned from my Jewish tradition is that every life is precious. That we are obligated to stand up for those facing violence and oppression, and to question authority in the face of injustice.

As of writing this. Israel has killed 35,000 people in Gaza, including 15,000 children. The Israeli military has bombed medical infrastructure, besieged a hospital, left mass graves behind, destroyed every university in Gaza, targeted journalists and aid workers and committed many, many inexcusable atrocities. These are all violations of international law, none of which would be possible without American weapons, and none of which have been condemned by President Biden.

The President has the power to call for a lasting ceasefire, to stop sending weapons to Israel, and to condition aid. The United States has used nearly no leverage throughout the last eight months to hold Israel accountable; quite the opposite. we have enabled and legitimized Israel’s actions with vetoes of UN resolutions designed to hold Israel accountable. President Biden has the blood of innocent people on his hands.

The United States has long enabled Israeli war crimes and the status quo of apartheid and occupation. That status quo does not keep Israelis safe, nor Jews around the world. It certainly does not protect Palestinians. who have the right to freedom, safety, self-determination, and dignity, just as much as Jewish people do, and every person does. Any system that requires the subjugation of one group over another is not only unjust. but unsafe. Jewish safety cannot – and
will not – come at the expense of Palestinian freedom. Making Jews the face of the American war machine makes us less safe. What seems like a lack of awareness in the Administration leadership of how critical this issue is to the American public is devastating to both communities and politically disastrous.

Today, May I5th, is Nakba Day, which recognizes the destruction of Palestinian society and homeland in 1948 and the displacement of the majority of the Palestinian people for the formation of today’s modern Israel. Nakba and Shoah, the Hebrew word for Holocaust, mean the same thing: catastrophe. I reject the premise that one people’s salvation must come at another’s destruction. I am committed to creating a world where this does not happen – and this cannot be done from within the Biden Administration.

My choice to leave is not a reflection of this office or the Department. I have felt supported by many individuals here, but I do not feel supported by the policies and actions of this Administration. I have the utmost respect for my colleagues at the Department who have given so much of themselves to doing the good work of preserving our public lands and strengthening Indian Country, and the many public servants across the federal government. I urge you all to take a stand for Palestinian lives. All our futures depend on this.

Respectfully,

Lily Greenberg Call

Ms Greenberg Call’s principled action and courageous, honest words will surely make her a target for the Israel lobby’s smear machine, just as it has targeted the many Jewish students standing up for humanity on university campuses. Her account was already briefly suspended by Twitter, presumably as a result of concerted action by pro-Israel groups:

Video: CNN investigation exposes Israeli concentration camps and torture

Published by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 14/05/2024 - 8:36am in

US broadcaster daren’t use the term, but it’s clear what they’re showing

An investigation by US news channel CNN has exposed Israel’s use of concentration camps, where Palestinian prisoners, mostly civilians, are routinely beaten, tortured, have bones and teeth smashed and are so inhumanely bound and forced into untenable physical positions that many have to have limbs amputated.

CNN calls these ‘detention camps’, but a viewing of the video makes the reality of what they are inescapable:

The discovery, aided by a whistleblowing soldier, adds to the seemingly endless tally of Israel’s war crimes. Meanwhile, the US and no doubt the UK are desperately pressuring the International Criminal Court (ICC) not to issue arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and his fellow war criminals.

The video also reveals that Israeli hospitals – against all norms and medical oaths – are refusing to treat wounded Palestinians. The victims of Israel’s mass murder in Gaza are, to a level of around 92 percent, civilians – more than two thirds of them women and children. Those held in these concentration camps are overwhelmingly likely to be civilians too – a fact confirmed by the eventual release of some after they have been brutalised, broken and maimed.

The ICC must not listen and must not delay – and warrants should also be issued for every politician in the UK and elsewhere who colludes in or covers for Israel’s genocide and innumerable other war crimes.
