Akehurst ‘Durham’ campaigners: councillors, including fellow BICOM staffer from London

Published by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 11/06/2024 - 11:26pm in

Unpopular parachuted right-winger’s sparse ‘supporters’ are mostly councillors – and even those are not all from Durham

Luke Akehurst, the right-wing Israel fanatic and genocide-denier imposed by Labour on party members in North Durham as their general election candidate, has posted photos of his supporters and himself out on the streets of Durham. He described them as ‘canvassing sessions’, but none of the photos show anyone speaking to the public.

Instead, the post consisted of two images of Akehurst, with a handful of people holding campaign placards, on empty Durham streets. But the people around him do not appear to be grassroots supporters, but instead a few councillors, including one from London, hundreds of miles away from Durham:

L-R: Cllr Danny Wood, Waltham Forest councillor Kira Lewis, Akehurst, former Durham council leader Cllr Simon Henig

Lewis is resigned from a whips’ role on the council last November after she posted (and subsequently deleted) comments saying that Israel’s mass murder of civilians and children in Gaza is ‘bad… but not evil’:

Hamas is no good for Palestinians and no good for Jews. It wants a fundamentalist Muslim dictatorship on the land from the river to the sea, devoid of all Jews. And Christians. And LGBTQ folk.

It is no good for anyone who believes in democracy. It is simply no good for humanity. What Israel faces now in Gaza is a moral dilemma. Hamas wanted the IDF to retaliate so it could make Israel look bad. It worked. What Israel is doing is bad – killing thousands of innocent people, including children. But not evil. Hamas is evil.

And while so many across the globe who promote Palestinian rights don’t want to see the difference, I do.

Lewis also works for BICOM, the hardline pro-Israel group that operates We Believe in Israel, the advocacy organisation that Akehurst runs, or ran until he was imposed as North Durham candidate – and before she worked for BICOM, Lewis was ‘national organiser’ for Akehurst’s Labour First right-wing pressure group:

The second image also features Lewis, along with more councillors:

L-R: Cllr Danny Wood, unidentified, unidentified, Akehurst, Lewis, Cllr Emma Waldock

Of the two so far unidentified people in the second photo-opp, the woman in glasses appears in local campaign photos otherwise featuring mainly councillors going back as far as at least 2015 and may be a party staffer.

It appears Akehurst is receiving little to no support even from ordinary local party members – so little that he can only get even enough councillors for a meagre photo by drafting them a fellow genocide-denier from north London.

Video footage shows violence of assault on Palestinian journalist, courage of Jewish colleague

Far-right Zionist mob’s racist assault on Saif Al Qawasmi exposed

Video released of a far-right Zionist mob’s assault on a Palestinian journalist in East Jerusalem reveals the viciousness of the assault. Saif al-Qawasmi was attacked last week by a crowd of racist thugs as they chanted bigoted slogans in East Jerusalem for Israel’s ‘flag day’, with pictures circulating of the moment of the attack.

And now video footage broadcast on Al Jazeera – ignored so far by the UK ‘mainstream’ media – shows just how much danger Qawasmi was in as the mob attacked in what is Palestinian territory that the white supremacist colonists say belongs to them:

The footage also shows the courage of a Jewish fellow journalist from Israeli paper Haaretz, who tried to defend al-Qawasmi from his fascist attackers.

Far-right thugs ‘celebrate’ Israeli ‘flag day’ by viciously attacking Saif Al Qawasami – who was then arrested by occupation police for getting beaten up

As a huge mob of racist extremists flooded occupied Jerusalem – which belongs to Palestine and is administered by Jordan – for Israel’s ‘flag day’, a mob of thugs jumped Palestinian journalist Saif Al Qawasmi in the Old City:

After he was jumped and beaten, Al Qawasmi was arrested by occupation police. Elsewhere, Palestinian old people were beaten by roving gangs chanting racist slogans and police ordered Palestinian shopkeepers to close as mobs rampaged through.

Around the same time, far-right Israeli minister Itamar ben-Gvir and a gang of thugs and bodyguards was forcing his way into the Al Aqsa Mosque compound, which he has said belongs to Israel and only Israel. Israel continues to murder civilians, mostly women and children, in its genocide in Gaza.

Video: Israel burns Ramallah food market – in the West Bank

Israel’s war crimes are not only in Gaza

Israel has attacked and burned a food market in Ramallah in the West Bank, where Hamas does not govern:

Video: ‘celebrities4palestine’ Instagram

No excuse has been given, but Israel’s far-right finance minister Bezalel Smotrich said recently that Israel would turn the West Bank into ‘ruined cities’, using similar language to the genocidal incitement used about Gaza by Israeli government figures, without even the fake justification of the debunked, anti-Hamas atrocity propaganda of beheadings, rapes and burnings.

Labour completed Abbott’s case 5 months ago – delaying to force her out of seat

Published by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 29/05/2024 - 12:17am in

Britain’s first Black woman MP received a formal warning and took a mandated online course, but still not reinstated from 13-month-long suspension for accurate comments, barring her from standing as a Labour candidate

Keir Starmer’s excuselast for the continued – 13-month – suspension of Diane Abbott, Britain’s first Black woman MP, was that the party’s disciplinary process had to be allowed to run its course.

Abbott was suspended over comments in a newspaper article – comments for which many Black people felt she should never have apologised – that Jewish people, because most look like the white majority, do not face the same type of racism as Black people. The comments were used as an excuse for a pile-on by pro-Israel groups – and Starmer suspended the whip from Abbott over the supposed antisemitism, despite letting a number of right-wingers off the hook for genuinely antisemitic comments. If the party does not reinstate her, she will not be able to stand as a Labour candidate in the coming general election.

But now Starmer’s excuse has been blown out of the water, with the revelation that the disciplinary process in Abbott’s case finished five months ago, with Abbott handed a formal warning and ordered to complete an online ‘antisemitism course’, which she did:

Fellow Black left-winger Claudia Webbe echoed the thoughts of many when she described Starmer’s and the party’s actions as ‘racism to the core’ and an attempt to control Black people, especially left-wing women:

Activist ‘ToryFibs’ noted that the abuse of Ms Abbott is anything but the exception:

The party is riddled with anti-Black, anti-Muslim and anti-Gypsy racism and Keir Starmer has repeatedly protected and excused outright racism on the part of the Labour right – as well as covering up sexual harassment and misogyny by right-wingers. Abbott is far too good for the diseased husk he has made of the party.

Right-wing extremist and racial supremacist Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s National Security Minister, is one of the worst of an odious bunch in Israel’s genocidal government – and he isn’t shy about Israel’s real ambitions for Gaza, where its military is engaged in genocide and an endless list of other war crimes.

And this week, he gave a speech, to thousands of far-right settlers, behind a podium declaring, “Colonization in Gaza will bring security. Returning home!” The speech was no better than the slogan – and clear evidence of Israel’s continuing genocidal intent:

The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor has said today that it will take the court until the end of 2025 to complete its investigation into war crimes in Gaza. The case is clear-cut and the decision to issue arrest warrants for the racist extremists running Israel’s government and carrying out the mass murder of Palestinian civilians cannot come soon enough.

‘Large pro-Israel demo’ in NYC has ‘few dozen people’

Broadcasters spin lack of support for Israel’s genocide

New York this week saw a ‘large’ pro-Israel demonstration, or at least it did if you take western news headlines at face value. But look beyond the headlines and even the ‘mainstream’ media can’t hide the truth – like CBS in the US, who had to admit that, in reality, only ‘a few dozen’ turned up:

The reality was in stark contrast to the presentation – and in stark contrast to the millions who turn out, every weekend, against Israel’s genocide and to support the people of Palestine against war crimes, oppression and apartheid.

Exclusive: Israel lobby, Murdoch press hunting Greens after party gives ground to pressure

Times shaping up for Corbyn-reminiscent witch-hunt of elected Greens who have stood up for Palestinians against Israeli genocide

The UK pro-Israel lobby is again pursuing those who speak out against Israel’s mass murder in Gaza

The Murdoch press is pursuing elected representatives of the Greens who speak up against Israel’s genocide in Gaza, citing the supposed concerns of UK pro-Israel groups offended by criticisms of Israel and of Israeli influence in UK politics.

In an echo of the witch-hunt of Jeremy Corbyn and his supporters during and after Corbyn’s leadership of the Labour party, Skwawkbox understands that the Times is planning an attack tomorrow on left-wingers now in the Greens who have attacked Israel’s genocide, apartheid and contempt for international law and humanitarian obligations.

An Israeli media article noting that the Israeli military conceded it had killed an ‘immense and complex quantity’ of its own citizens on the day of the Hamas raid

‘Offences’ as specious as highlighting Israel’s ‘immense’ slaughter of its own people on 7 October – an established fact long ago admitted by the IDF and by Israeli police and freely discussed in the Israeli press, but covered up by the UK’s political-media Establishment – are being targeted as supposed cause for investigation, suspension and condemnation. Even describing the anti-Left witch-hunt as the scam it has long been exposed as is supposedly grounds for condemnation.

The move seems to have been triggered by a show of weakness by the Greens’ leadership, who reacted to the mobbing of Green councillor Mothin Ali for his support of Palestinians by launching an investigation. The Greens, to their credit, have not suspended Ali, but the fact that any concession to the the pro-Israel lobby only encourages more attacks is one of the clearest lessons of the Corbyn era and it seems Israel’s supporters see an opportunity to cow the Greens as a potential source of dissent and resistance to the UK political establishment’s determination to ignore Israel’s war crimes and even assist in them.

Kibbutz survivors and even IDF soldiers have talked openly about the killing of Israeli families by Israeli tanks and troops

It is now up to the Greens to treat this mobbing with the contempt it deserves – to remember that Jewish people play a prominent role in pro-Gaza protests in the UK and around the world, and are not the pro-Israel monolith that they are portrayed as by the UK media, politicians and pro-Israel lobby groups, and to make sure that the urgency of ending the slaughter of Palestinian civilians, mostly women and children, far outweighs the sense of offence claimed by those who support Israel’s ‘right’ to commit genocide.

Analysis: Spanish PM Sánchez ‘trying to adulterate’ Catalan elections as Puigdemont returns

Catalan film-maker Jordi Oriola Folch analyses the run-up to Catalonia’s elections next week

On 12 May next week, elections will be held to choose the government of Catalonia. Four years ago, Catalan pro-independence parties won with 52% of the votes and 55% of the seats. A Catalan pro-independence government of ERC and JUNTS was formed with the support of the CUP. But different strategies in the face of constant Spanish judicial repression meant that ERC was left alone in the government.

In these Catalan elections, the situation is totally different, because the result of the last Spanish elections has forced the ruling PSOE to make a pact with JUNTS so that its 7 votes would contribute to the investiture of President Pedro Sánchez. This has forced him to accept an amnesty law with which, soon, all those persecuted by the “lawfare” (judicial warfare using fraudulently the law) of the Spanish justice system will be free of any accusation. Among them, the Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, who in 2017 organised the referendum on self-determination, was illegally deposed by the Spanish government and had to go into exile in Belgium to avoid being unjustly imprisoned.

At the beginning of this election campaign, the PSC (the Catalan PSOE) was leading the polls because the majority of the non-independence vote is concentrated in this party. A little further behind were the two big pro-independence parties, ERC and JUNTS. But then Puigdemont announced that he was standing as a candidate and that he would return triumphantly to Spain for the investiture with the protection of the amnesty he has managed to wrest from Spain. Then voting intentions began to shift towards JUNTS and closer and closer to the PSC.

The thing is that Puigdemont is the number one enemy of Spanish nationalism and arouses great fear in Spain, because he represents insubordination to the state and has not been able to be subdued. This is why, at the start of the election campaign, Pedro Sánchez surprised everyone with a reckless and disturbing juggling act. Without warning, he published a letter on social media announcing that he was very upset with the extreme right because his wife was accused of corruption. And he announced that he was giving himself five days to reflect on whether he should leave the presidency. Sánchez had always denied the claims of the pro-independence movement that they had been victims of “lawfare”, with the mantra that Spain is a state governed by the rule of law. But now he has acknowledged that, in Spain, judicial dirty war is being practised.

The country was left on the edge of the precipice, waiting for the president’s decision. After five days he affirmed that he would continue and, taking advantage of the state of shock, tried to call on his followers to vote in the Catalan elections with the justification of demonstrating to the extreme right that Pedro Sánchez has the support of the people. With this manipulative strategy, Sánchez managed to increase the PSC’s voting intentions and stay ahead of Puigdemont.

But as the elections approach, it seems that this trend of PSC growth has stalled and, on the other hand, the pro-independence electorate is concentrating its vote on Puigdemont. We shall see who ends up winning… In any case, even if Puigdemont does not come out on top, it is possible that he will be the only one to obtain a majority to be invested as president of Catalonia. In this case: how will Spain react to a person it has persecuted so viscerally? Will it respect the will expressed at the ballot box or will it give free rein to its repressive nationalism?
