Started catching up on extracurricular # this afternoon. Sill going at midnight. Powering through on a Hunter S. Thompson strategy, estimating alcohol consumption by measuring ice consumption. The medieval Persian philosopher Avicenna apparently employed similar methods to enable work through the night, with rather more success than Dr. Gonzo.

I don't eat jam. My wife doesn't eat jam. Kitty doesn't eat jam. The dog doesn't eat jam. Despite that there is always a jar of jam in the fridge, but I have never seen jam go mouldy. Tomato paste, my heavens yes, as soon as you take your eyes off it. Jam never.

My friend Chris and I would slowly go through a single bottle of Jinro, chasing each little tumbler with a beer in order to maintain the ability to talk bollocks (these days it would have to be water).

I was a bit anxious about the Saki, expecting it to be about 20% ABV like Korean Jinro Soju, but at 14% it was no harsher than the reds. My regret is by that stage we were not at our best for appreciating the more subtle flavour. We should have had some plum-flavoured Seoljungmae, the nicest lolly-water-for-grownups I've ever tasted. OMG! OMG! Jinro now do grapefruit Soju! At the 14% (literally) sweet spot! Oh, to be well paid and in a cosmopolitan city!

@tregeagle You know what I usually drink. I don't think it's ever had anything to do with a vineyard or field. I suspect they get postgrad hydrocarbon chemists on work placement to tweak the formula now and then, but the big proprietary secret is to mix a barrel of sugar into each vat immediately before packaging. When I woke up this morning, I hadn't felt so good in years.
