Does every faux-progressive opinion columnist in the #UK do nothing but pine for the return of Tony Blair? They seem to be dismayed that politics has become so "divisive" that people are actually turning out to vote; it would be better for democracy if we had a resurgence of "moderates" (i.e. Thatcherite Labour) who would once again inspire people to stay home. STFU. You got your Spice Girls reunion. Be happy with that.

Watching @bkuhn choke up when talking about what the #Debian community means to him brought a tear to my eye as well. It's a powerful observation that #freesoftware advocates should make more often: most people get their software from companies; we get ours from friends who care about us enough to want to ensure we can function in 21st century society without compromising our liberty.

Wow. Makes Reagan's Star Wars sound almost reasonable. https://microblog.mjd.id.au/url/23282 Dan Ellsberg is the gift that keeps on giving. How he managed to be the only sane person in the room for so long is a mystery.

Started catching up on extracurricular #work this afternoon. Sill going at midnight. Powering through on a Hunter S. Thompson strategy, estimating alcohol consumption by measuring ice consumption. The medieval Persian philosopher Avicenna apparently employed similar methods to enable work through the night, with rather more success than Dr. Gonzo.

I don't eat jam. My wife doesn't eat jam. Kitty doesn't eat jam. The dog doesn't eat jam. Despite that there is always a jar of jam in the fridge, but I have never seen jam go mouldy. Tomato paste, my heavens yes, as soon as you take your eyes off it. Jam never.

@tregeagle My alcohol rule is "don't try to keep pace with the Korean students at the next table in the #Strathfield Hotel." My friend Chris and I would slowly go through a single bottle of Jinro, chasing each little tumbler with a beer in order to maintain the ability to talk bollocks (these days it would have to be water).
