I used to drink in the Metropolitan in the 80s/90s (okay, along with nearly every other pub in the #Sydney CBD). It was a lovely comfortable pub; lots of grey hair and red noses. Because of the gradient of Bridge St., the window of the back bar on the ground floor put you right on the eyeline of coachloads of Japanese tourists. Much convivial hand waving exchanged. When it closed prior to losing the ground floor to McDonalds, I salvaged one of the illuminated perspex signs that hung from the front awning. Had to snap it in half to get it home under my arm on the train.
