One of my idiosyncratic opinions is that windshield brain and car-centric culture have led to people having absolutely no sense of geographic size and distance. The reliance on GPS for driving directions probably doesn't help.
For example, when people who live in a big city get panicked texts from their relatives every time there's some crime on the news, as if it must happening right there. Or, more relevant to now, when everybody "knew" that in 2020 American cities had been completely taken over by BLM protests when they were maybe happening in a few block range somewhere.

On this day on 1789, the crew of the HMS Bounty mutinied. If you haven’t watched any of the films, this famous rebellion took place in the South Seas, when Lieutenant Fletcher Christian and about half of the crew rose up against the oppressive leadership of the cruel Captain William Bligh. Can you guess what the final straw was, that final sadistic act that sparked the mutiny? That’s right, he cut off their rum ration. Always a dangerous move. Fun fact: Did you know some of the mutineers’ descendants still live on Pitcairn Island, to which half of them escaped?
The departure of the spectacular “Freedom Flotilla” to Gaza carrying 5,500 tonnes of aid has been postponed (again), because the flag state of the major vessels, Guinea Bissau, has withdrawn their registration.
The key question is why the organisers were proceeding with such an unreliable flag state in the first place?

Rishi Sunak was interviewed by Trevor Phillips on Sky News this morning. He was petulant, pedantic, defensive of his record and simultaneously aggressive towards Phillips, whilst also being inappropriate and evasive. Apart from that, the interview went well.
I do, however, wish to ignore all those points and pick up an issue which he did not, of course highlight. Nor did Phillips.
Sunak’s claim was that we have to increase defence spending in the UK as part of our programme of defending our borders. It’s all very Trumpian.
Dan Poulter MP has resigned from the Tories, crossed the floor of the Commons, and joined Labour.
Once upon a time this might have taken courage. It might have also delivered a particular political message. I do not think either of these is true in the case of the little known Poulter, who is not seeking a return to the Commons when he leaves Parliament at his own choice at the forthcoming general election.
I have this morning posted this video on YouTube, addressing an issue of accounting and transparency that matters to me.
I think the format for accounting used by large companies might provide data of use to financial markets. However, the impression that these accounts give to the world is also seriously misleading, not least because they suggest that a company undertakes transactions that it has never had legal responsibility for.
This morning’s weather in East Anglia reminded me of a song….
The Israeli authorities, in their campaign of remorseless killing, doctoring and adjusting the numbers of the Palestinian populace for whatever future awaits, have been found wanting on accusations that Hamas terrorists packed, stacked and filled UNRWA (the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East). Not that this, in of…

Even if one doesn’t frequent that cause of so much misinformation, social media, and merely relies on the reliable sources such as Sky After Dark, one will undoubtedly have learned that our society has been overrun by woke communists and Marxists. Some folks on Reddit aren't exactly happy with what they're seen of The Beatles so far from the upcoming new season of Doctor Who.
A joint submission from four bureaus - Democracy Human Rights&Labor; Population, Refugees & Migration; Global Criminal Justice & International Organization Affairs – raised "serious concern over non-compliance" w/international humanitarian law in Israel's conduct of the Gaza war.

A little bit of hope:
The recognition of the State of Palestine has been an issue for the current Labor government since it came to office. Readers are reminded of these articles: The ALP and the Israeli occupation of Palestine, 9 August 2022; Why did Australia oppose the ICJ advisory opinion on Israeli settlements?, 15 February 2023; Recognise Palestine Now!, Continue reading »
We generally assume words carry the same meaning in the mind of speaker and listener. This enables meaningful communication and common understanding. Sometimes however words are given a specific meaning which completely changes their original intent. The words become weapons. This has happened with the word antisemitism and the word terrorist. This week the American Continue reading »
In Asian media this week: Hate speech an appeal to ‘bigoted supporters’. Religious and communal tension in India have been thrust to the forefront of campaigning Continue reading »
Back in 1947 the W.H. Auden poem, The Age of Anxiety, was published a year after he renounced his British citizenship for US citizenship. Today the title could encompass an omnibus of community concerns and has also now led to awareness of what is being called eco-anxiety. That condition is the subject of significant research Continue reading »

Ramzy Baroud responds to revelations about The New York Times “guidance” on language about the Israeli mass slaughter in the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7. U.S. media is Continue reading »
The Ukrainians changed the face of modern warfare with inexpensive Chinese-made drones equipped with cheap Chinese-made cameras. These provide both battlefield intelligence and a platform for delivering destructive weapons. Interestingly, the Chinese did not interfere with these Ukrainian drone operations against China’s friend, Russia, despite the claims by Senator Patterson and others that Chinese kit Continue reading »
Tom posted one short CNN video of Bill Barr’s utter pusillanimity earlier but I wanted to show the whole interview so you could get the full picture of a typical establishment, Fox News brain-rotted Republican’s worldview. It will shock you:
